As a travel blogger (and vlogger!), I have recommendations for travel camera gear, no matter what your experience level is.
It’s important to know what our goals are and why we have the gear that we do in order to make the best decisions for your own gear, which is probably why you’re here in the first place.
I am a self-taught photographer and started my career as a wedding photographer. I love turning real life moments into forever life memories with my camera.
When Colton, my husband, and I decided to quit our jobs and go on a 6 month travel adventure, I sold some of my wedding camera gear and bought sone video specific gear.
We knew we wanted to have photos and videos to document our travels so I brought my full-frame, professional Canon 5d for photos and we purchased a Sony Mirrorless camera to primarily be used for video.

Our Travel Camera Gear
In the past we shot with Canon and Sony, and love both. However I recently consolidated to 1 Sony camera to get my camera bag a little smaller! Sony creates wonderful cameras for photography and videography so I felt that switching made a lot of sense.
Photography
This is my everyday setup when I’m traveling and at home! I have a Sony a7riii camera body with a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. This setup is so epic for amazing travel shots, everyday photography, and super professional photos.
I also have a Sony a7ii that I use for both photo and video. With it I’ve paired the Sony 18 – 105 f/4, and I also have a Sigma 16mm f/1.8 lens for wide photo and video. This camera has become my backup camera, and my husband’s camera!
Videography
We opted for a mirrorless Sony camera for our videography because of how compact and lightweight the body is. Paired with the Sony 18-105mm f4 lens, we were able to get both wide and close shots for our videos. Overall, we love how lightweight this setup is.
This pair also works well for photography!
Storage and Organization
We have terabytes upon terabytes of photos and video that we need to store while on the go, and once we get back home.
I recommend a SSD (Solid State Drive) for storing data while on the go. SSDs are lightweight, small, and more durable than other external hard drives. We use the Samsung T5 1 Terabyte SSD.
On top of that, having a really good storage system for your cameras and gear keeps it all safe. We recommend the RVCA Men’s Zak Noyle Camera Bag Backpack & the Wandrd PRVKE Travel and DSLR Camera Backpack.
We use all of these products on a daily basis while traveling and capturing photos and video of our adventures.
You can see these products in action by watching our YouTube videos that we made with the exact gear above!
